Dallas Area Hospital Loses Two Year Open Records Battle

It’s taken two years but the Dallas Morning News is closer to finally receiving documents requested from Parkland Memorial Hospital in 2010.  That’s the ruling of Travis County District Judge Paul Davis, who also ordered the Hospital to release documents it had previously claimed were exempt from disclosure due to attorney-client privilege.   According to the News, Judge “Davis wrote that Parkland ‘failed to state or demonstrate a compelling reason to withhold the information at issue’ and that it ‘did not comply’ with the Texas Public Information Act on a procedural matter.” The documents were requested surrounding allegations the hospital owed “up to $50 million for overcharging Medicare and Medicaid.”
